Are my paintings realistic, as people often tell me? Yes, in the sense that they mostly represent something easily recognizable. But my idea is not a faithful reproduction of the photo – “reality”. Rather I aim to depict the color, the temperature, the mood and the experience of a specific place and time. I almost always use my own photos. I show the painting and the photo side by side, because the photo as the first step in the process, where you can see what interested me, but also how I changed it.
