Although I seldom paint scenes from other places than my current home, the Atlantic Coast in New England has always felt like an alternate home. 10 Surf Street, Marblehead Massachusetts USA has been in the family for more than 50 years and is a place that I have often visited and even temporarily lived in several times. Anyone who lives nearby will recognize “Flirtation Rock”, which I painted very true to the photo. At high tide, the rock almost disappears. As the tide goes out, you can climb on the rock, watch the waves and enjoy the tidal pools formed, with all their tiny temporary inhabitants. What particularly attracted me about this scene are the swirling waves that caress the rock.
