I photographed this unusual tree on the shores of Lake Wolfgang in May 2018. Anyone who has walked along this path will probably recognize it. A year later I was in the last seminar of the two-year course at the Leonardo Academy in Mattsee and had to produce a final picture within a week. We could choose a topic, so I chose "longing". We had to work fast, so I started painting with a palette knife rather than a brush. It was one of my first attempts to paint like this and it worked. I finished the whole painting without a single brush stroke. This technique lends spontaneity and gives the picture an interesting impasto texture. A young course participant sat under the tree as a model for the figure. (She was not at the Wolfgangsee). The picture was sold at an exhibition in Tyrol: my first sale in Austria.
