A head of lettuce can be beautiful. I photographed this particularly fine one, then painted it on a large canvas: a larger-than-life representation. Sometimes a painting can be so realistic than it becomes surrealistic. This is one of my favorite paintings. Along the line I lost the soft copy of the photo, but was able to find the printout I used when painting. You can see the red cross-hatchings I used to keep myself from getting lost in the myriad of leaves.
