I was draining cucumbers on a green striped dish towel one day when I noticed that it looked rather like a flag, a cucumber flag. I took a photo with the idea of later painting it. But the whole was much too plain. So I started with a stock photo of an American flag, then added the green stripes and the cucumber slices. Still too plain. For no particular reason other than color, I then painted orange slices rather like stars on a dark purple background. No deeper meaning here, just play.
