Church at Mülln

The beautiful church at Mülln has always been a favorite, not only because of the lovely tower but also because of its setting at the foot of the Mönchsberg. The neighborhood of Mülln was where I first lived when I arrived in Salzburg as a Fullbright student. I wasn’t thinking about that when I shot this photo from across the river. (Actually, this photo is one of many that I used here.) But as I painted, I realized that the house where I first lived must be in the painting. I had to go back to figure out which one it was. It is the gray one in the very center of the painting. The house is at the foot of the street that leads to the entrance of the Augustiner Bräustüberl, a large beer hall and restaurant across the street from the church. This is also one of the ways you can walk on the Mönchsberg, a lovely city park with forested walkways and breathtaking views of the city below.
