Cat Amelia and dog Khalesi belong to my son and his wife. I painted it as a gift for them. I prefer painting animals with oils, because to create soft color transitions it works better if the paints do not dry quickly and the colors can still be mixed on the canvas. Acrylic colors also tend to be too bright - not good for animals. But with oil paints you have too much of a good thing: I didn't allow myself enough time to transport the picture safely. So acrylics after all. With a good painting medium and a lot of smearing the surfaces, I created a picture that I think works very well. Typical of a lot of my paintings, I began with a warm color background, pinkish-orange, which shows through in many places.
